Additional Fields for the Himalayan Database

The Autumn-Winter 2014 update and the Combined 2004-2014 (or later) update add four new fields to the MEMBERS database (NECROLOGY, MSPEED, MSMTBID and MSMTTERM).

These new fields are only added if you first download and install the Himal 1.8 (or later) version of the database program before applying the update. If you apply the update with an earlier version of the Himal program, the new fields will not be added.

The new MEMBERS fields are further defined as follows:

NECROLOGY – gives decedent information for climbers that have passed away.

MSPEED – indicates that the climb was as a speed climb.

MSMTBID – gives summit bid status:

0 – Unclassified

1 – No summit bid

2 – Aborted below high camp

3 – Aborted at high camp

4 – Aborted above high camp

5 – Successful summit bid

MSMTTERM – gives the summit bid termination reason:

0 – Unclassified

1 – Success

2 – Success (Subpeak)

3 – Bad Weather (Storms, High Winds)

4 – Bad Conditions (Deep Snow, Avalanches, Falling Rock/Ice)

5 – Accident (Death or Injury)

6 – Altitude (AMS Symptoms, Breathing or Unwell)

7 – Exhaustion, Fatigue, Weakness or Loss of Motivation

8 – Frostbite, Snowblindness or Coldness

9 – Other Illnesses or Pains

10 – Lack of Supplies or Equipment Problems

11 – O2 System Failure

12 – Route Difficulty, Intimidation or Insufficient Ability

13 – Too Late in Day or Too Slow

14 – Assisting, Guiding or Accompanying Others

15 – Route/Camp Preparation or Fixing Rope

16 – Insufficient Time Left for Expedition

17 – Did Not Climb or Intend to Summit

18 – Other

19 – Unknown

The Autumn-Winter 2011 update and the Combined 2004-2011 (or later) update added two new fields to the EXPED database (COMRTE and STDRTE) that indicate climbs that were done on the commercial routes for Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu and Everest and the standard routes for the other 8000m peaks; and adds two new fields to the PEAKS database (HIMAL and REGION) that further describe the location of the peaks.

These new fields are only added if you first download and install the Himal 1.5 (or later) version of the database program before applying the update. If you apply the update with an earlier version of the Himal program, the new fields will not be added.

These fields are further defined as follows:

For the EXPED database:

COMRTE – indicates that the climb was done primarily on one of the following routes:

Southwest Ridge of Ama Dablam

Northwest Ridge of Cho Oyu

South Col-SE Ridge of Everest

North Col-NE Ridge of Everest

STDRTE – indicates that the climb was done primarily on one of the following routes:

Southwest Face of Kangchenjunga

Makalu La-Northwest Ridge of Makalu

West Face of Lhotse

South Col-SE Ridge of Everest

North Col-NE Ridge of Everest

Northwest Ridge of Cho Oyu

NE Face of Manaslu

North Face of Annapurna I

Northeast Ridge of Dhaulagiri I

These fields will not be marked for climbs that are done on non-commercial or non-standard routes or for climbs that are done on multiple routes (such as the 1963 American Everest expedition that climbed both the standard South Col-SE Ridge and the non-standard West Ridge routes).

For the PEAKS database:

HIMAL – indicates the name of the Himal that the peak is located in.

REGION – indicates the name of the region that the peak is located in.
